Our top 6 Upcycling Ideas

Are you looking for some creative and environmentally conscious DIY fun? Well, upcycling is your best friend - and we’ve compiled our fave upcycling ideas to make sure that nothing in your household goes to waste!

They always say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure - but what if your trash is your own treasure?

With our fave upcycling DIY delights, you’re sure to be able to make your own treasure by developing a sustainability-minded habit in upcycling! Let’s hit it!

Plastic Bottle Herb Planters

Upcycling is like recycling’s super cool big sister, and we think that this DIY is the perfect example of that. Sure, you could just recycle your plastic bottles when you’re done - but you could also upcycle them into a herb planter at zero cost!

Simply cut the bottle in half and add a dash of water to the bottom. Dispose of the lid and flip the top half of the bottle into the bottom half with the spout inside the water. Add dirt and seedlings in the top - and you’ve got your own herb planter ready to rock n roll!

Hand-painted Pots

Make boring ol’ dull pots a thing of the past and transform your space with this super artsy DIY! You don’t need to have a degree in art to perfect this upcycling project - just some pots & paint!

This could be a cute solo project, or one for all the gals and the guys to get together over some coffee (or wine, if you’re feeling extra fancy!).

Reusable Cotton Pads

Are you looking for a reusable alternative to disposable makeup remover pads or kitchen cloths? Well, the best option is to make them yourself - and it’s as easy as using any leftover material pieces, or material from clothes you don’t wear anymore.

Simply sew two segments of the same size together to whatever size tickles your fancy, and voila! A brand new reusable goodie for you!

Repurposed Candle Jars

Okay, we can’t be alone in finally getting to the end of a candle and not knowing what to do with the jar. They’re always way too beautiful to throw out! Well, how about using them for storage?

From pens, to coins, to coffee pods - candles are the perfect size to hold your little knickknacks in a convenient and cute repurposed way! If it’s clear, why not add some pretty painted designs to spruce them up!

Fabric Gift Wrap

Repurposing fabric leftovers into gift wrap is the perfect upcycling hack, and it makes for the cutest wrapping ever!

Opposed to non-recyclable wrapping paper, this is the best way to get your friends onto the eco-conscious gig too (I mean, if you gift them something with super cute fabric wrapping paper - why would they not reuse it? It’s a win-win for all!).

Tin Can Planters

Much like the Plastic Bottle Herb Planters we mentioned before - you can also make a DIY garden selection with tin cans! Add a dash of paint and some dirt & seedlings and you’re ready to leap into the horticulturist world in no time!

This type of upcycling stops landfill being loaded up with goodies that are good for DIY projects around the house, which is a great habit to develop for the environment!
